ABOUT

Amy Berringer was raised in Jackson Hole Wyoming and currently lives in Northern Virginia. She works in a variety of art mediums, each transcending into the next. She primarily works as a professional photographer, but is also a talented ceramic artist, painter, graphic designer and art educator.

Photography

Amy’s photo career started in high school were she first learned to develop and process film for her school yearbook. In college she continued to take photography classes as well as other photography workshops for specialized instruction. She has since worked as a professional photographer for over fourteen years. As a photographer, Amy tries to capture the natural look of her clients. Each photo shoot is unique to the client and their personality. Amy shoots primarily on location, but also has a portable studio for more formal head shots and product photography.

Ceramics

Ceramics are a more recent addition to Amy’s portfolio. She started to dabble in ceramics nine years ago by taking classes from Kristen Swanson in Lovettsville Virginia. Amy’s specialty is her surface work as she applies her painting skills to the surface of bowls, platters and mugs. Amy donates many of her bowls to Loudoun Empty Bowls events each year. She, along with fellow artists started Loudoun Empty Bowls in 2013. Loudoun Empty Bowls hosts a charity event each year to raise money to fight food insecurities in Loudoun County. Amy also sells her work at the Waterford Fair and holiday craft fairs. In 2016 Amy set up her own ceramic studio in her garage and expanded into “Paint your own” ceramics to offer classes for others interested in painting ceramics. She currently offers classes as part of the local elementary schools after school program.

Education

Thought the years Amy has taught a variety of classes at schools, community art centers, summer camps, as well as private lessons.

Art is woven throughout Amy’s life as she raises her six children with paint brush in hand, clay in her hair and camera slung around her neck.
